If you are reading this, you probably have years’ worth of clothes in your closet and you are looking for a motivation to declutter. It’s understandable to have the urge to clean one minute, and then later on lose the motivation once you realize how daunting the task will be. But you have to start somewhere, right?
Here are some easy tips to help you lessen those piles of clothes and give your closet some space to breathe.
Take everything out of your closet.
Empty your closet. Take out every single piece of clothing or item in there and find a place where you can mount these.
Do not be intimidated by the massive pile. Perhaps you will be shocked by how much clothes you actually have. You might see again that t-shirt you bought three years ago or that pants that is already out of style. This is why it’s necessary to evaluate from this pile what to keep, what to toss and what to donate.
Get boxes and organize the clothes.
Your room will probably be messy later on, so getting a box to put the sorted clothes will save you from getting confused. Get a box for those you will be disposing, then for those you will be keeping, and lastly those you would want to donate.
Evaluate the clothes, one by one.
This will be the most tiring but fun part of the decluttering process. Since you will see again some clothes from years ago, trying them out will feel nostalgic. However, if the outfit does not fit you or not the current fashion trend anymore, then it will just be another clutter inside your closet. Remember that your goal is to keep clothes that are useful to you and to toss and donate those you really do not wear anymore.
You will be surprised to see how many clothes you are not wearing anymore. Perhaps you will be left with few clothes in the end. But don’t worry, after making some a lot of space, you could now update your wardrobe by shopping from Ka-pok or other stores without feeling guilty.
Decluttering might really be a tiring process. But don’t think too much of how painful the work will be. Having an organized and clean wardrobe will be worth the effort!
